About the Title

The title reflects the fact that we have had a goose’s nest in our yard each of the six years we have lived in this location. During the first three years, the nest was occupied by Ossie and Harriet. Harriet had seventeen little ones over the three-year period. We are unsure as to what happened to Ossie and Harriet. But Fred and Wilma took the place of Ossie and Harriet and oddly enough, Wilma made her nest in the exact same place as Harriet’s nest. We don’t know if Fred or Wilma may be offsprings of Ossie and Harriet or just part of the flock. However, both Fred and Wilma have an ankle bracelet. The first couple did not have bracelets.

Over the past three years, Fred and Wilma have raise eighteen of nineteen young ones (they loss one). In the six-year span, we’ve seen the flock double.

The young ones will almost eat out of my son’s hand, although, Wilma is quick to hiss at any sudden movements. And two honks from Fred means "head for the pond." Mike feeds them a whole loaf of bread each day. Wilma honks at the front door for Mike to come out. If he takes to long, they lay down at the front steps and wait for him.
